10 January<\/strong> – SCY opens the year’s tower peal ringing with a peal<\/a> of Pipe’s classic 11 part cyclic maximus. A classic part of the SCY repertoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026 – 3 January<\/strong> – SCY opens the year’s peal ringing with yet another (the 6th in 3 months!) peal of 324 Spliced Mino<\/a>r by Team Pipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 December – <\/strong>Mulled Wine and Mincepies and bonhomie at the practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13 December<\/strong> – Peal <\/a>rung at GSM to celebrate the Society’s 300th anniversary by the current and past Masters of the Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 November –<\/strong> Quarter peal<\/a> of Stedman Cinques rung by past and present officers of the Society of Cambridge Youths to mark the 300th anniversary of the first peal <\/a>in the tower also the first peal by the Society. The 1725 peal was only the 4th known peal outside Norwich and London, the two centres of ringing at the time. It is the first recorded peal by the Society of Cambridge Youths, and a memorandum recording the peal can be found in the Society\u2019s earliest surviving accounts book. It was rung on the back eight of the new ring of ten bells cast by Richard Phelps of Whitechapel in 1722\u201323. This ring replaced an earlier eight, but there is no evidence that the old bells had ever been pealed.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

11 October<\/strong> – First Peal <\/a>of RABS (Rigel, Avon, Bristol, Strathclyde) by the Society<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 October –<\/strong> Handbell peal <\/a>of 324 spliced minor methods. Only 7 methods off the SCY record of 351<\/a> rung in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 – September<\/strong> – 7200<\/a> Spliced Minor at GSM on the back 6 rung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 July – <\/strong>In July 1789 the Society passed a resolution to “meet in Great St Mary\u2019s tower, to ring Treble Bob on twelve bells, every Monday evening at 7 o\u2019clock<\/em>“. 236 years later, a peal <\/a>has been rung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 June <\/strong>– Quarter peal dedicated<\/a> to the memory of Paul Mounsey <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 June <\/strong>– SCY bank ring 41 minor on the heavy (28cwt) of Hoar Cross<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3rd May <\/strong>– SCY travelled to Scotland to ring a peal at Inveraray<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

22nd March <\/strong>– Society Qualify at Rotherham for the 12 Bell final to be held at St Mary Redcliffe in June<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3rd March <\/strong>– Greg Chu elected as ringing Master at the AGM<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd December<\/strong> 2024 <\/strong>– Mulled wine and Mince pies at the practise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18th November <\/strong>– Society Performs Handbells <\/a>in the reading room of the British Museum. Full write-up in the ringing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

September –<\/strong> Weekend of celebrations and a Dinner to mark the 300th anniversary of the society<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15th August <\/strong>– First peals for the Society <\/strong>for AnneO and HelenA and first as conductor for DaveR as a peal of Cambridge Major on the middle 8 scored. See bellboard<\/a> <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13th July<\/strong> – Society revises and rings a Peal of “Particles”<\/strong> 10 Spliced Maximus at GSM. Clever stuff. See bellboard<\/a> <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14th June<\/strong> – Society makes another appearance at the National 12 Bell final coming 7th out of 10 finalists. We rang well and had a lovely weekend despite the weather. See National 12bell site <\/a>for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2th June – Philip Hensmen marks his 1000th<\/strong> consecutive attendance at service ringing at Great St Marys. Presentation made to him at the morning service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

13th June<\/strong> – despite the heat an excellent peal of London Major<\/strong> on the back eight at GSM See bellboard<\/a> <\/a>for details;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st April 2024 –<\/strong> 10,300 Peal Scored<\/strong> Longest peal rung in the tower scored. Stedman Cinques in 7hrs 8minutes called by David J Pipe. Band included a number of former “old” resident members as well as 3 up and coming twenty-somethings from our local band. See bellboard <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14th March 2024<\/strong> – “Pi” peal of Stedman Caters<\/strong> with a new innovative composition that contains 10 different callings (allocated to the digits 0-9) which, when called in the sequence of the first 47 decimal places of Pi, generate a true peal. 10th March – Ladies quarter peal of Stedman Cinques<\/strong>. Rung for International Women’s day. See bellboard <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9th March – Ladies peal of Cambridge Major. <\/strong>Rung for International Women’s day called by Liz Orme. Possibly the first all-ladies peal for the Society. See bellboard <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22nd February – First 5-bell peal in the tower.<\/strong> Rung on the back-5 a peal of 48 methods and remembering Andrew Johnson who sadly passed away recently. See bellboard <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4th January – Birthday peal of Cambridge Royal <\/strong>for our Ringing Master Dave Richards and first peal of Royal conducted by Lynn Hughes. See bellboard <\/a>for details<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st January 2024 –<\/strong> The Anniversary Celebrations Begin – a “year” of ringing and events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Society of Cambridge Youths. <More><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

24th September 2023 – New Vicar Inducted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Revd Canon Jutta Brueck<\/strong>, previously Priest in Charge of St Mary the Great with St Michael, Cambridge has been instituted and inducted into the Benefice. During the service Jutta tolled the 4th following which handbells were rung by the Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
