SCY300 – Anniversary

To celebrate the 300th Anniversary of the founding of the Society of Cambridge Youths we are planning “a year” of activities and events in which members can partake as well as inviting members to organise additional peals and quarters in celebration. Cambridge Folk Festival – 25th-28th July 2024 – As part of the year of celebrations the SCY will be making our debut appearance at the Cambridge Folk Festival utilising the Charmborough Ring and Handbells. More Details

Peals and Quarters – To mark the 300th Anniversary various Peals and Quarters are being arranged at GSM and other towers. We also ask members to perhaps also organise their own local peals/quarters and to link those to our Bellboard Event. More details

The Dinner Weekend – 20th-22nd September 2024 – no celebration is complete without a Dinner and particularly for the SCY whose history is full of celebratory dinners, be that for anniversaries, club nights, civic occasions or just for fun. We are delighted to announce that the dinner will take place in the Great Hall at Trinity College. Details and Ticket prices may be found here

This weekend will be more than a dinner, plus the usual ringing as there will also be guided walks and talks plotting the history of the SCY. We hope too to have a special one-off Frank King demonstration. More details

The SouvenirCambridge towers with bells in 1724 – We have a wonderful souvenir picture of all the towers of Cambridge that had bells in 1724 is now available to purchase. Featuring Great St Mary’s it also shows old All Saints, St Sepulchre, St Michaels, Holy Trinity, Great St Andrews, St Edwards, Kings College campanile, St Benet’s and St Botolph’s as they would have likely looked in 1724 More details
